Welcoming Boroughs of Sanctuary

We’re delighted that both Richmond and Wandsworth Councils have become Boroughs of Sanctuary and have been recruiting new staff to work under a dedicated Head of Refugee Services.

RWinR has also become the official group representing Richmond in the nationwide City of Sanctuary network. We’re now working more closely with our friends at Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees as well.

This good news comes not a moment too soon. Across the country we’re seeing very worrying increases in insecure housing and homelessness, especially among refugees and other sanctuary seekers.

Here’s how you can help:

  • If you know anyone who might have accommodation to rent to refugees at a fair price with council support, please contact us and share our recently updated information pack for landlords.
  • If you can offer temporary hosting such as a room in your own home on a voluntary basis, visit Refugees At Home. They urgently need volunteers willing to host single male clients in London.

Refugee Week is 17th-23rd June, so be sure to check their website for events across the UK.

To celebrate, Richmond Council is holding a special event on Wednesday 19th June, 6.30pm at York House, Twickenham. Register on Eventbrite.

And, as ever, please get in touch if you would like to volunteer or update your details with us.
